As you grow old you are going to attend menopause at some or the other point. It is usually around the late '40s and early '50s. We get a lot of patients with menopausal symptoms, coming to us asking if we can help them.
Symptoms of Menopause:
Every woman has different symptoms, basically, your periods gradually stop during menopause, they might come early or late, you might have heavy or scanty bleeding, this disturbance continues for some time till it completely stops. You might have periods once in 2, 3, 4, 6 months and then gradually once in a year.
This is only the physical part of it, this is not what bothers most of them, they can deal with these things but it is the emotional disturbance that is difficult to deal with. A lot of women become moody, cranky, angry, you feel like crying, you become very sensitive, lose patience at small things and shout at people, you are just not yourself.
This also happens in a lot of women even before menopause when they are young and just before they get periods. Once your periods come, you are a different woman altogether. Everybody in the house knows when you are around your periods, that is how irritable you get, and then suddenly once you have your periods you are all yourself the loving, understanding, compassionate woman you are. This is not your problem, this is because of the hormonal changes in your body. A lot of people are not aware of this and eventually end up with a psychiatrist, he puts you on a lot of medication, and you become addicted to them. You end up as a psychiatric patient not knowing that it is your hormones that are causing all these things.
During menopause a lot of women have hot flushes, they suddenly start to sweat profusely while sitting, or sleeping in the AC room sit, they have palpitations and feel anxious, fearful, they do not know what is happening. These are the symptoms of menopause. I have seen that this also depends upon how the mother had menopause, if she had it in her early 40s, a similar pattern is seen in the daughters.
You go to the doctor, the gynec says get rid of your uterus, anyway, it's work is done, and take hormonal pills for some time. Removing the uterus is a big issue for a lot of people. A lot of people after getting their uterus removed complain of putting on weight, backache, this, or that.
Once you start on hormones, you feel better but you have to take them for a long time and they have side effects when taken for a long time. As it is you are bothered because of your hormonal issue and on top of that you have to deal with the side effects of pills.
So, what is the solution?
We have been able to help a lot of people with menopausal issues. Once you start on the medication the physical issues like heavy bleeding, prolonged bleeding, or scanty bleeding can be taken care of with medicines.
If you have delayed bleeding, that is okay, it is a natural process. You need to understand that whatever is happening during menopause is a natural process, the body is trying to stop your periods and it does not happen just like that, it happens slowly. You cannot interfere every time you have heavy bleeding, when you take hormones and stop the bleeding every month, you are interfering with the natural process and people do not realize that when you do not let it happen naturally, you end up having a lot of other issues.
70% of the rural women who are ignorant and do not have the
money visit a gynecologist, they do not interfere, they become all right and do not have these typical mood swings and all that like you guys have. Natural things that happen in the body as you age should be left alone, having said that I am not saying my medicines are going to interfere with it. No, homeopathy is a very natural way of treating menopause. We are able to help a lot of women going through menopause. Once you start on homeopathic medicines, excessive bleeding, hot flushes, sweating, palpitations, mood swings, all of this comes down. A lot of women after starting medicines, within few weeks come back and tell that they feel much better emotionally and their mood swings have come down. Every month it gets better and better to a point that it is bearable.
People who are already on allopathic medications:
(We make them stop their allopathic medication and ask them to take Homeopathy for three months. In some cases where they have been taking hormonal pills for a long time, we start homeopathic medicines along with allopathy, and over a period of time, we gradually taper off their allopathic medicines.)
What happens if you leave it alone?
(Nothing much, but your mood swings keep increasing, you feel cranky, moody, irritable, you lose your patience at every small thing and feel like shouting at people.)
Do's and Don'ts:
Exercise and keep yourself fit because menopause is a time where you put on a lot of weight. One of the biggest issues of menopause is putting on weight, whatever you do, you do not lose weight. Follow the diet that I have given on my website dr.manoj's diet plan, please go through it if you are able to make sense. A lot of women following this diet along with our medications have been able to lose weight. Try it out.
Keep yourself joyful, busy, do meditation, breathing exercises, try to be outdoors, and avoid too much stress.
I always tell people who come to me in their late 40s and early 50s, as a woman you spend all your life taking care of others from childhood then you get married, you take care of your husband, in-laws, children, and grandchildren. When is the time that you should have for yourself? Menopause is the time when you need to focus on your mental and physical health, make yourself a priority, take care of yourself. This is the time to take care of yourself. Give yourself some time, freedom, and find happiness.
What would I do if I was in your place:
I would for sure not start on any hormonal pills, I know that I am not risking anything by giving Homeopathy around 3 to 6 months to try and manage menopause. With my medicines, I will help you have easier menopause than you would normally have.
Trust me, nothing is going to happen to you in these three to six months' time. But if these medicines can help you manage your menopause and avoid hormonal pills and surgery for the rest of your life, isn't it worth giving it a try?
Take care. Stay safe.
